UWC Application for Afghans 2024 Entry

UWC Application for Afghans 2024 Entry

Opens 14 Sep 2023 09:31 PM (CEST)
Deadline 1 Nov 2023 09:31 PM (CET)

Description:
APPLY to UWC via the UWC National Committee of Afghanistan
The UWC National Committee of Afghanistan welcomes applications from students who are Afghan citizens currently living in Afghanistan, or who are living in any other countries as refugees. Please note, if you are a permanent resident or a citizen of another country other than Afghanistan, you are not qualified to apply through the UWC National Committee of Afghanistan. Please apply through the national committee where you are a citizen or have permanent residency.
Note that the application process this year will be conducted entirely online. This means you can apply from wherever you are and don't have to worry about the overall logistical procedures during the selection process.
Please read the following important notes before starting your application.

Requirements for Applicants:
Before applying, you should make every effort to learn about the United World Colleges. Please refer to UWC website by clicking here
* Only applicants born between August 1, 2005, and August 15, 2009, are eligible to apply.
* Applicants must provide a valid Tazkira and a valid Afghan passport. Any applicant who does not provide a valid Tazkira and a valid Afghan passport will be automatically disqualified.
* This application must be your own work. Any indication of outside help with your application - at any stage of the process - is grounds for immediate disqualification.
* Please ensure you provide a valid e-mail address and a telephone number. Applications without a clear e-mail address and telephone number to contact the applicant will be rejected.
* The entire application process is conducted in English, therefore, the applicants must have a good understanding of the English language.

Your Responsibilities:
* If you are nominated by the national committee, you will be responsible for obtaining all travel documents (passport, visa, etc.). We can make no guarantees that you will receive a visa. Applicants who do not receive a visa may have their offer to UWC revoked.
* Nominated students may be required to travel to a neighbouring country to obtain their visas for their respective schools due to lack of consular services in Kabul. Please know that this is all the responsibility of the student and their family and the National Committee of Afghanistan can not help.

Parental Consent:
* The UWC scholarship is for a two-year residential programme (with separate rooms for males and females); parental consent is required for applications to be considered.

Submitting Your Application:
* The application deadline is Thursday, November 1, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Kabul time. Late applications will not be considered. Incomplete applications will not be considered. We recommend you do NOT leave the application submission to the last minute.
* Once your application is submitted, please check your email to ensure you have received a confirmation email from us indicating your application has been received. If you do not receive this confirmation email, please contact us at chair.gh@af.uwc.org or selections@af.uwc.org
To begin your application, please click on the register button on the top right corner of this page.  Once registered, please create your eligibility profile to continue.
Please make sure to choose "UWC National Committee" as the route to apply to UWC, unless you are planning to apply through the UWC Global Selection Programme. If you choose the UWC Global Selection Programme, you will not be directed to the UWC Afghanistan application form and will not be eligible for a scholarship.

Selection Criteria:
The UWC National Committee of Afghanistan select candidates based on the following criteria:
* Intellectual curiosity: You love learning about the world around you - both inside and outside the classroom. You have at least one academic area that you are passionate about, and would like to explore further. You are able to recognise global and local issues, and analyse them critically.
* Active commitment to your own values and those of UWC: You share UWC’s values and show a commitment to follow UWC’s code of conduct. You have humility and the ability to listen to, and value, other people’s opinions. You appreciate that although others may have different points of view, they may also be right. You promote UWC’s values in your daily life, and act as a global citizen of the world.
* Social competence: You interact respectfully with others, understanding and appreciating their viewpoints and perspectives, and you are able to work within a team to find solutions to problems. You know how to express yourself appropriately in different situations and to different people.
* Resilience, self-awareness and independence: You can look after yourself physically and emotionally during challenging situations, for example in a boarding school environment. You have developed good coping strategies, and you are not easily overwhelmed. You also know when to ask for help for yourself, and for others.
* Personal responsibility and integrity: You can express and examine your own values, and you are ready to contrast and reflect on them in comparison to the values of others. The way you behave within your family and community reflects your values and beliefs. You can communicate your own needs and are mindful of those of others, demonstrating a sense of communal responsibility.
* Academic robustness: You have the potential to meet the rigorous demands of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme.
